Our Curriculum

Learning today. Shining tomorrow. ✨

At Golden Minds Preschool, learning begins from the moment our children walk through the door. Our curriculum is designed to provide a strong educational foundation while recognizing that young children learn best through a combination of structured instruction, hands-on experiences, exploration, creativity, movement, and play.

Serving children ages 1–5, our curriculum grows with each child. Skills are introduced at developmentally appropriate levels and intentionally built upon as children progress from Twinkling Toddlers to Bright Beginners and into Shining Scholars—our Pre-K & Kindergarten classroom.

Golden Minds Preschool children learning through hands-on play

Our goal isn't simply to introduce children to academic concepts. We want them to understand, practice, apply, and feel confident in what they're learning.

📚 Early Literacy & Language

We help children develop the foundational skills needed to become confident readers, writers, and communicators.

Depending on their developmental level, children work on:

  • Letter recognition and letter sounds
  • Vocabulary and language development
  • Listening and comprehension
  • Storytelling and sequencing
  • Rhyming and phonological awareness
  • Name recognition, spelling, and writing
  • Pre-writing and handwriting skills
  • Early reading and sight-word development
  • Expressing thoughts, ideas, and experiences

Books and read-alouds are an important part of our classrooms and are often incorporated into themed lessons, art projects, discussions, and hands-on learning experiences.

🔢 Mathematics & Early Problem Solving

Math at Golden Minds goes beyond memorizing numbers. Children learn through activities that encourage them to count, compare, sort, recognize patterns, solve problems, and think critically.

Skills may include:

  • Number recognition
  • Counting and one-to-one correspondence
  • Shapes and spatial awareness
  • Colors
  • Sorting and classifying
  • Patterns
  • Comparing quantities and sizes

  • Measurement and positional concepts
  • Puzzle building and problem solving

✏️ Fine-Motor & Writing Development

Strong little hands help create confident writers!

Children participate in activities that strengthen the muscles and coordination needed for writing and other everyday tasks.

These experiences include:

  • Proper pencil and crayon grip
  • Tracing lines, shapes, letters, and numbers
  • Cutting with scissors
  • Drawing and coloring
  • Manipulating small objects
  • Using tweezers and other fine-motor tools
  • Puzzles and building activities
  • Name-writing practice
  • Handwriting development for our older learners

🔬 Science, Discovery & Exploration

We encourage children to be curious about the world around them.

Through age-appropriate experiments, observations, nature experiences, sensory activities, and classroom discussions, children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, explore, and discover.

Topics may include plants, animals, weather, seasons, the five senses, nature, life cycles, and other concepts connected to our classroom themes.

🎨 Art, Music & Creative Expression

Creativity is an important part of learning at Golden Minds.

Children have opportunities to express themselves through:

  • Painting and drawing
  • Process art and crafts
  • Music and singing
  • Dancing and movement
  • Dramatic and imaginative play
  • Sensory experiences
  • Theme-based creative projects

These activities support creativity while also strengthening language, motor skills, confidence, and self-expression.

💛 Social-Emotional Development & Independence

Academic readiness is only one part of preparing a child for success.

We also help children learn how to function confidently within a classroom community by practicing:

  • Sharing and taking turns
  • Following classroom routines
  • Listening and following directions
  • Expressing feelings appropriately
  • Building friendships
  • Problem solving with peers
  • Developing independence
  • Caring for personal belongings
  • Completing age-appropriate tasks
  • Building confidence and responsibility

Our teachers model and reinforce positive classroom expectations throughout each day.

🧩 Learning Through Purposeful Play

Yes, we play at Golden Minds—and our play has a purpose!

Learning centers, puzzles, manipulatives, pretend play, building materials, sensory activities, and teacher-guided experiences give children opportunities to practice important skills in ways that feel natural, exciting, and meaningful.

Play helps children develop communication, creativity, problem-solving skills, cooperation, independence, and critical thinking—all while having FUN!

🎓 Preparing Our Shining Scholars

As children enter Shining Scholars, our Pre-K & Kindergarten classroom, the curriculum becomes increasingly focused on school readiness and academic independence.

Children continue building literacy and mathematics skills while strengthening handwriting, early reading, comprehension, problem solving, classroom responsibility, independence, and the ability to complete more structured learning activities.

Our goal is for every Shining Scholar to leave Golden Minds with more than academic knowledge. We want them to leave confident, curious, independent, excited about learning, and prepared for their next educational journey.
